Thaipeople as well they sleep everywhere and anytime. I am collecting these odd places and I wonder, why!
But my theory at least in Thailand - could be that they all sleep in the same bed and might not sleep very well also fighting the heat - so they simply has to Catch up......what do you think?
I'd like to make a small photo book just with pictures of Chinese sleeping, anywhere but their bed! Shouldn't be too hard to get together 150 pix. I agree with your theory in part, depends on the income level of the people though. The poorest people are bone tired all the time from lack of sleep (like you say sharing a bed with someone else and being repeatedly woken up), but also here in China not getting enough healthy food to keep you going through the day, working seven days a week for more than ten hours and constantly worrying about life. The girl up top is sleeping out of sheer boredom and "tristess" I think (KFC worker), the guy in the middle got too exhausted as a tourist at the Forbidden City, the guys down below have no excuse, they have enough money to have a good life, in Chengdu there problem is probably too much mahjong all night, too much baijiu (liquer) and girlfriends that want to shop too much! I totally admire their ability to sleep in public though, without caring what anyone things about them or how they look. I'd like to be able to do that!
My Li, it might put you to sleep! I think that many Chinese sleep whenever they can as a way to get away from all the "noise" that is in China. Everyday they are constantly surrounded with noise, sounds and people disturbing their peace of mind and this is a way of "zoning out" as they say in the US. Mr Li, please tell me, why do the Chinese sleep all the time? Mr B said you used to sleep on the bus to Ya'an!
"I recorded this event in order to make it known to persons who are fond of such matters". Song Dynasty official Fan Chengda (1126-1193) wrote this in "Diary of a Boat Trip to Wu" on July 10 in the year 1177 when travelling through Sichuan Province.
